Freshmen:

This week I will be giving the students the review sheet they will need to study for the exam.  I am asking all parents to sign the note stating that you

have seen the review sheet.  I will be giving a test each week either Thursdy or Friday.  I will also play the ‘Old Testament Bingo Game’  with them to help them enjoy the reviewing.  I will also interject some movies on the various characters of the Old Testament if I have the time.  Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Sophomores:

Students will be receiving the review sheet sometime this week and I am asking all parents to sign the note stating that they have seen the review sheet.  Students will be having test each week either Thursday or Friday.  Please do not hesitate to contact me at any time.

Freshmen Class:

There will be a major test on Tuesday on Moses Part 2.  Any student needing help should stay after school on Monday for a complete review of the test.  I have mentioned to some students that they should definitely stay at least 30 minutes.

On Wednesday we will begin the study of Joshua and the Fall of Jericho.  Students will be given a map to show the division of the land of Canaan given by Joshua.  I hope to touch on the Judges that took over after Joshua died and the famous story of Samson, the strong man.

Sophomores:

Monday will begin to review for the major test on Tuesday.  Students will have to really study their notes.   Anyone needing help can come after school.   On Tuesday they will be given the test and then given an assignment to using the Bible.

The rest of the week will be given to taking notes on the rest of the sacraments.I will spend some time on the sacrament of Matrimony and its history.

I plan to complete the DVD on Moses and also prepare students for a test on what they have been taught.  We will also have various ways to review the work before the test.   I am trying to get students to study on their own.  I am not going to review as much as I have been doing.  Students need to know that they are responsible for studying on their own.  They also must know that they are responsible for everything that has been taught.  They must listen carefully when work is reviewed.  I hope to give the test on Friday.  If not, next week for sure.

Sophomores:

We are now watching a DVD entitled “The Celestine Prophecy”.  It is a film that brings out the unnoticed beauty in all things.  It is gives students another way of seeking heaven as a continuation of earth.

After the DVD, we will discuss the Eucharist, review Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist and finally have a test on the material covered.

There will be a major test on Moses on Tuesday.  There will also be a review session Monday after school.  All are invited but I have told some students to make sure they are present.

On Wednesday we will continue with the story of Moses

Sophomores:

Monday we will finish the video and show how everyone can be a visible presence of God’s love and the effects it has on everyone.

Tuesday we will begin the sacrament of Baptism.  Students are urged to bring pictures of their Baptism to class.

This Tuesday there will be a very important test on what has been covered on Moses.  There will also be a special review session Monday after school. I have already mentioned to certain students to make sure they come.  Anyone is welcomed.

On Wednesday we will continue with the story of Moses.

Sophomores:

Monday we will finish the video we have been watching.  Then students will

show how each person was a sacrament to each other.  They will also make a mandela to show the effects of being  a visible presence of God to others.

On Tuesday we will begin to study the sacrament of Baptism.  Students are asked to bring pictures of their Baptism.  We will continue with Confirmation possibly on Thursday.

Students will complete the worksheet (50 questions) up to the plagues during the course of the week.

A short quiz will be given on Tuesday on the notes given in class.

Hopefully the students will be ready for a test on Thursday or Friday.  The questions they will be given coincides with the video on Moses. I expect the students to pay attention to the video because it will help them greatly in doing the worksheet. Sophomores:

Students will be given the time in class to read certain sections of the chapter.  They will have a test on the names and definition of the seven sacraments on Tuesday.  After the test they will be given the Open Book Quiz to complete. Students will be expected to read the chapter on their own as it is  impossible to read it all in class.

On Wednesday we will begin the study of Baptism.  They will be given a set of typed notes to help them with the work.  Their homework will be to study the worksheet.

On Thursday we will go over the worksheet and do the discussion question on p149. For Homework they will study the worksheet and if I see that we have been able to accomplish everything, they will have a test on Baptism on Friday. Monday will be given to complete review of Joseph  from the worksheet I plan to return to the students.                                                                        Tuesday will be a test on the worksheet.                                                                 Wednesday will be devoted to introduce the story of Moses. Some notes will be taken and the rest of the class the students will read the story of Moses from the Bible.  There may be a short quiz on the notes taken in class tomorrow.                                                                                                         Thursday students will be given a worksheet to begin in class and an assignment from the worksheet will be given.   Homework:  complete certain chapters from the worksheet. Friday students will be given the answers to chapter 1 2, 3 and then begin the DVD on Moses.

Sophomore Class                                                                                        Monday: Students will have a special prayer service and be given any papers not given before Easter.   We will then begin the study of chapter 5  – Jesus Christ and the Church.  We will introduce this chapter by reading page 76 and discussing how it relates to the Incarnation.  There will be notes taken from the Overhead Projector.                                                                          Tuesday: There will be a review of what has been taught on Monday and will continue with the transparencies.  There will be group work with the students entitled Jesus as sacrament using the bible to find different ways Jesus is ‘sacrament’ to us.                                                                        Wednesday: Students will read aloud p 89 and continue with note-taking from the overhead projector.  Homework:  Students will be asked to read over all of chapter 5 as it is not possible to read the whole chapter in class. Thursday:  students will be given the open book test and do the essays at the end of the test. Friday: If we have been able to complete all the work so far there will be a DVD to show how one person can be a ‘sacrament’ to others.

There will be the continuation of the movie on Joseph.  Hopefully it will be completed and the worksheet that goes with it will be graded by Friday.

Sophomore Class:

The chapter on Prayer will continue this week with various forms of prayer in the classroom.  There will be an assignment that students will be required to do.  Each student will have to interview a teacher and have them describe when they experienced a very prayerful momen in their lifetime.  Secondly, they will  be  asked to interview four adults outside of school on the types of prayers that were said in their childhood experience.

The final test for Jacob will be on Tuesday.  They must know by heart the definition of ‘theophany’ and be able to write the 12 sons of Jacob in order besides all the questions from their worksheets.

On Wednesday we begin the story of Joseph the son of Jacob and Rachel.

We will first read from Genesis the story of Joseph and then follow it with excerpts from the DVD on Joseph.

Sophmore Parents and Students:

This week we will end chapter 3 on Rituals.  They must know the 8 characteristics of ritual and complete the open book test.   The project they were given last week will be due this Thursday.  They are to divide a poster or large paper into 8 parts, name the 8 characteristics and design a ritual for each using symbolic actions and symbols.

We will also begin chapter 4 on prayer.

Students will review the whole story of Jacob.  On Tuesday or Wednesday they will be given a worksheet that may have to be completed at home.  That means they will need a bible.  They will review the definition of ‘theophany’ and be given a list of the 12 sons of Jacob.  A major test will be given on Tuesday.

Next Monday I will take the time to review  everything.  Any student who is having difficulty or wants to make sure that he/she will pass with a good grade is encouraged to stay after school to review for the test.

Sophomores – Celebrating Sacraments

Students will continue with the quesitons on section 2 and 3 of Chapte 3: Rituals.  They will be given the open book quiz without any page numbers.

On Friday they will have a test on naming the 8 characteristics of a ritual and explain each briefly.  Please make sure that they take the time to study.

On Tuesday or Wednesday of next week they will have a test on the chapter.

I will be giving them a project that will be explained to them this Friday.  They will be given  till next Thursday, March 18,  to complete it.  Any student not doing the project on time will be given a zero.

Project: On a piece of large paper which I will give to them if they wish, they will list the 8 major characteristics and be able to give pictures or symbols of each one.  Students must do it either on the computer or in pen.  It is to be done professionally, not just have things written or scotched taped.  They should have at least two or three symbols.  If you have any questions, please contact me.
